Annapurna Region
Trekking in the Annapurna region will be an experience you’ll never forget! It’s one of the most popular and well-known trekking regions in Nepal and that’s not surprising! The diversity of this region combined with its easy access from lakeside city Pokhara, make it an incredible option for trekkers at all levels.
The superstar of the Annapurna Massif is Annapurna I (8,091m/26,545ft) the tenth highest mountain in the world! It stands tall among 13 peaks over 7,000m/23,000ft, and 16 peaks over 6,000m/20,000ft. There’s no question that you’re in the heart of the Nepal Himalaya here!
Trek through lush forests of bamboo and rhododendrons (in full bloom in Spring). Marvel at the vivid green terraced farmlands perched on steep slopes. Cross glacial rivers by swinging suspension bridge. Enjoy the rich culture of the ‘real’ Nepal as you pass through tiny rural villages and settlements. Bathe in the relaxing natural hot springs at Jhinu Danda.
There are many options to choose from for trekking in the Annapurna region. Take a look at our example itineraries for treks to Ghorepani Poon Hill, Annapurna Base Camp and the more strenuous Annapurna Circuit. Our Ghorepani Poon Hill and Annapurna Base Camp treks are accessed from Pokhara, the second largest city and ‘adventure capital’ in Nepal. Pokhara is the perfect place to relax and have fun! Ask us about building time in your itinerary to try one of Pokhara’s many adventure activities including paragliding and white water rafting!
Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek (4-6 days ‘easier’ walking, highest altitude 3,210m/10,532ft)
If you’re short of time or concerned about the physical demands of trekking in Nepal, Ghorepani Poon Hill is a great option. It’s our shortest and lowest altitude trek. Making it accessible to anyone with a moderate level of fitness. Poon Hill is one of the most popular vantage points in the Himalaya, providing spectacular views of ten mountains over 7,000m/23,000ft. We guarantee it will take your breath away! Your trek wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the relaxing natural hot springs at Jhinu Danda – a real highlight!
Annapurna Base Camp Trek (8-10 days ‘moderate’ walking, highest altitude 4,130m/13,550ft)
The Annapurna Base Camp trek combines the incredible views from popular vantage point Poon Hill, with a trek right into the heart of the Himalaya. Annapurna Base Camp is quite simply magical. We spend the evening there and wake up early to watch the sunrise turn the mountains golden. Towards the end of your trek, enjoy some R&R – bathing in the relaxing hot springs at Jhinu Danda.
Annapurna Circuit Trek (11-18 days ‘challenging’ walking, highest altitude 5,416m/17,769ft)
The Annapurna Circuit is an amazing trek that has continued to grow in popularity. So much so, that it’s now more accessible than ever, since part of the original trail has been replaced with a road. Yet there’s only one way to see the lush forests, medieval mountain villages, the desert wilderness of Mustang, and to cross the highest (non-motorable) pass in the world – the mighty Thorong La! We design itineraries to avoid the road as much as possible and make the most of this breathtaking trail. It’s also possible to add a spectacular side trek to your itinerary – visit sparkling blue Tilicho Lake high in the mountains at 4,919m/16,138ft!
Other Treks in the Annapurna Region
If you’re set on trekking in the Annapurna region but would rather stay clear of the more popular trails, we can help! We also guide other less-visited treks in this region including the Mardi Himal and Khopra Danda Trek. Tell us what you’ve got in mind and we’ll partner with you to build your perfect itinerary!
