Introduction to My Nepal Adventure

It’s me, William I am from England, and this was my very first trekking experience in Nepal. While planning my Himalayan adventure, I researched many trekking destinations and finally chose the famous Langtang Valley because it seemed perfect for beginners who want beautiful mountain views, local culture, and a peaceful trekking route.

During my research for the best trekking company in Nepal, I discovered Nepalorama Trekking Pvt. Ltd. After reading about their private trekking services and local guides, I decided to book my 9 days Langtang valley trek from May 4 to May 12.

Exploring Kathmandu Before the Trek

I arrived in Kathmandu on April 30 and spent three days exploring the city before starting my trek. Kathmandu was a fascinating place for me. The city felt alive with culture, ancient temples, local markets, colorful streets, and friendly people. Some parts were busy and chaotic, while others were peaceful and spiritual. It was a completely unique experience compared to England.

I enjoyed walking around the narrow streets, tasting local food, and observing the traditional Nepali lifestyle. Kathmandu gave me my first impression of Nepal, and it was both exciting and memorable.

Meeting My Trekking Guide

On May 3, I met my trekking guide Ram from Nepalorama Trekking Pvt. Ltd. at my hostel in Kathmandu. He welcomed me warmly and made me feel comfortable immediately. Since this was my first trek in Nepal, I had many questions, but Ram explained everything clearly and professionally.

He briefly explained the trekking itinerary, discussed the necessary equipment, and gave me useful advice about the weather, hiking pace, and altitude. Before leaving, he told me we would meet the next morning at 7 AM to begin our journey toward the Langtang region.

Kathmandu to Syabrubesi – A New Local Experience

The next morning, we took a taxi to the bus park and boarded a local bus heading toward Syabrubesi, the starting point of the Langtang Valley Trek.

The long drive itself became a wonderful cultural experience for me. Traveling on a Nepali local bus was something completely new. Local music was playing throughout the journey, people were chatting happily, and the road passed through beautiful hills, rivers, and villages. Although the drive was long, I enjoyed every moment because it gave me a real feeling of local life in Nepal.

Before entering the trekking route of the Langtang Valley, we obtained our official entry permit at Dhunche, which is the main checkpoint for the Langtang National Park.

At Dhunche, we completed the necessary permit formalities and registered our trekking details before continuing toward Syabrubesi. The process was smooth and well-managed, and it is an important step to ensure safety and conservation inside the Langtang region.

We finally reached Syabrubesi around 5 PM. Ram selected a very comfortable teahouse for our stay. I was surprised because the lodge had facilities similar to a city hotel, including free WiFi and a free hot shower.

Syabrubesi is a beautiful village surrounded by green hills and rivers. As the gateway to the Langtang Valley Trek, the village has a peaceful atmosphere, strong Tamang culture, colorful monasteries, and even natural hot springs beside the river. One of the highlights for me was seeing the large Buddhist statue near the monastery.

After dinner, Ram explained the next day’s hiking plan from Syabrubesi to Sherpagaun, and then we rested early for our first trekking day.

First Day Hiking – Syabrubesi to Sherpagaun

The next morning, after breakfast, we officially started our trek at around 8 AM toward Sherpagaun.

One of the first exciting moments was crossing a suspension bridge for the first time in my life. It was both thrilling and unforgettable. After crossing the bridge, the trail became mostly uphill. Since I was new to trekking in the Himalayas, Ram advised me to walk slowly, drink plenty of water, and stay hydrated.

As we continued climbing, the scenery became more and more beautiful. We could see views of the Ganesh Himal and the Gosaikunda Range. Along the trail, we spotted colorful birds and even deer in the forest.

We stopped frequently to take photos, record videos, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. The trail was challenging because it was mostly uphill, but the incredible mountain scenery made every step worth it.

We had lunch at Khanjim Village and continued trekking at our own pace. By around 3 PM, we reached Sherpagaun. After arriving at the teahouse, I enjoyed a warm coffee while admiring the peaceful mountain village.

Later in the evening, we explored the village, rested for a while, and had dinner around 6:30 PM. After dinner, we played UNO with Ram and some new friends we met during the trek. It became one of the most enjoyable moments of the day. We laughed, shared stories, and enjoyed the cozy atmosphere before going to bed after the nightly trekking briefing.

First Impression of the Langtang Valley Trek

My first days in the Langtang region were already unforgettable. The combination of Himalayan landscapes, Tamang culture, friendly people, peaceful villages, and the guidance from Ram made this trek very special for me.

As a first-time trekker from England, I quickly understood why the Langtang Valley Trek is considered one of the best trekking experiences in Nepal.

Day Two: Sherpagaun to Langtang Village

Our second day of the Langtang Valley trek started from Sherpagaun at 8 AM after breakfast. It was raining lightly in the morning, but luckily the rain stopped after a few minutes of walking. The fresh air and peaceful forest made the hike very enjoyable.

One of the best parts of the trail was the beautiful rhododendron forest fully covered with colorful blooms. Along the way, we reached Rimche for a short rest where Ram showed me natural bee hives and shared local stories about the region. After that, we continued through Lama Hotel and followed the river through dense forest trails.

Near the riverside, we relaxed by playing skipping stones and making small stone stacks, which local people believe help remove tiredness and negative energy. After lunch, we continued the long walk toward Langtang Village.

During the trek, Ram explained the tragic story of the 2015 Nepal Earthquake and how the old Langtang Village was destroyed by a massive avalanche from Langtang Lirung. Hearing this story made the journey emotional and meaningful.

By evening, we finally reached Langtang Village after a long but beautiful trekking day filled with forests, rivers, rain, and unforgettable experiences.

Day Three: Langtang Village to Kyanjin Gumba trek

Our third trekking day in the Langtang Valley was shorter and easier compared to the previous days. We started hiking from Langtang Village toward Kyanjin Gompa through wide open landscapes and beautiful yak pasturelands.

Along the trail, we saw many yaks, horses, and long mule caravans carrying supplies to the mountain villages. The valley looked peaceful and open, surrounded by Himalayan scenery. Even though the weather was cloudy, we still enjoyed some beautiful mountain views during the hike.

On the way, we visited the famous Kyanjin Gompa monastery and saw traditional prayer wheels spinning naturally with water power, which was an amazing experience for me. After reaching Kyanjin, we explored the village and visited the beautiful Lirung Lake.

The accommodation and food in Kyanjin were very comfortable. Ram recommended I try Dal Bhat, Nepal’s traditional meal, and I really loved it. In the evening, we relaxed, played games, and enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of the Himalayas together.

Day Four: Kyanjin Ri Hike (Acclimatization Day)

On our rest day in the Langtang Valley, we hiked toward Kyanjin Ri for acclimatization.

The weather was not good and the mountain views were mostly hidden by clouds, but the trail itself was clear and peaceful. We first reached the lower viewpoint, took some photos, and spent time there. Many trekkers were returning from this point because of the poor visibility.

However, Ram encouraged me to continue to the higher summit for better acclimatization. With his motivation, I decided to go up. We slowly continued to the top even without clear views.

Reaching around 4700m was a special moment for me — it was the highest altitude I had ever been in my life. Even without mountain views, I felt very happy and proud. I took some photos and enjoyed the feeling of standing at such a high point in the Himalayas.

After spending some time at the top, we carefully descended using a safer trail back to Kyanjin Gompa village. We had lunch, rested, and later explored the village peacefully in the afternoon.

It was a simple but very meaningful day of acclimatization, confidence, and personal achievement in the mountains.

Day Five: Attempt to Tserko Ri Viewpoint

On the fifth day of our trek in the Langtang Valley, we planned to hike toward Tserko Ri for sunrise and panoramic mountain views.

We started after breakfast around 7 AM, but the weather was already not very good, so we moved slowly to manage our pace. The trail was a full uphill ascent, so we carried snacks, water, and essential gear like crampons just in case.

The route was very diverse — gravel paths, muddy sections, rocky trails, and even some snowy parts. We followed signboards carefully to stay on the correct path.

However, near the final section before the summit, the weather suddenly became very harsh. Heavy snowfall, strong winds, and thick fog covered everything around us. Visibility dropped completely, and we could not see the trail or footprints clearly.

At that point, we made the safe decision to turn back. Even though reaching the top would have been amazing, safety was more important. After taking a few final photos, we carefully descended back.

The return journey took about two hours down to Kyanjin Gompa. We arrived safely, had lunch around 3 PM, and spent the rest of the day resting after a long and challenging hike.

It was a difficult but important experience that taught us the value of mountain safety and decision-making in extreme weather conditions.

Day Six: Kyanjin Gompa to Lama Hotel

On the sixth day of our trek in the Langtang Valley, we started our journey back from Kyanjin Gompa toward Lama Hotel.

The morning was clear and the mountain views were absolutely stunning. The peaks looked bright and peaceful, and I felt very happy to finally see such clear scenery. Ram captured many photos and videos of me enjoying the beautiful landscape before we started descending.

It was the longest walking day of the trek, covering more than 17 km downhill. While descending, knee pain and tiredness were normal, but we continued at a steady pace. Along the way, we saw monkeys on the trail, which made the journey even more interesting.

We stopped for lunch at Ghora Tabela and continued our descent. We reached Lama Hotel before 4 PM, just as it started raining again. Ram said we arrived at the perfect time.

After reaching, we had coffee, relaxed, and played cards together. I learned a Nepali card game called “Dhumal” from Ram, which I really enjoyed.

After dinner, we rested early and had a deep and peaceful sleep after a long trekking day.

Day Seven: Return to Syabrubesi – Trek Completion & Celebration

On the final day of our journey in the Langtang Valley, we made our way back from Lama Hotel to Syabrubesi.

The descent felt easier as we were already familiar with the trail, and there was a strong feeling of satisfaction knowing the trek was almost complete. This day was more about relaxation, reflection, and enjoying the final moments in the mountains.

After reaching Syabrubesi, we finally celebrated the successful completion of the trek. One of the most memorable moments was dipping our legs in the natural hot springs near the river, which helped relieve all the tiredness from the long trekking days.

We also shared our experiences, memories, and highlights of the journey together. Looking back, the trek felt like a beautiful combination of adventure, culture, nature, and personal achievement.

It was the perfect ending to an unforgettable Langtang Valley Trek experience.

Day Eight: Return to Kathmandu – End of the Journey

After completing the trek in the Langtang Valley, we traveled back from Syabrubesi to Kathmandu by van.

Compared to the local bus, the van ride was faster and more comfortable. The road journey gave me time to reflect on the entire trekking experience — from forests and rivers to high mountains and villages.

After reaching Kathmandu, Ram accompanied me and dropped me at my hotel. We said goodbye after sharing final thanks and memories of the trek.

It marked the end of an unforgettable adventure in Nepal, filled with nature, culture, challenges, and lifelong memories from the Langtang Valley Trek.
