Exploring Upper Mustang & Poon Hill with Nepalorama: A Seamless, Well-Planned Trek

Almost 2 years ago we decided to go on a private trekking tour with Nepalorama. Anna supported us very patiently and competently during the planning. The Nepalorama team managed the rescheduling due to Covid very well.

The hospitality of Nepalorama was outstanding. It started with a warm welcome on the airport by Krishna, continued during the whole trek by our experienced guide Bibek and our mindful porter Naren and ended with a fare well dinner in a lovely restaurant in Kathmandu with Krishna and Bibek.. Bibek always organized the best available room for us and has always taken care of our physical well-being.

During the trek we enjoyed the flexibility of the Nepalorama team to adjust the routing if needed – because of closed accommodations, weather conditions or because we liked to stay one more night at a certain place.

We loved the trekking in the Upper Mustang area due to the beautiful but in winter times barren landscape. The view on the mountains is amazing, the culture is interesting, and we have met only two other foreigner tourists – a real private tour. In wintertime the temperature can be a challenge as also indoor the temperature remains very low and the water can freeze during nighttime.
The added Poon Hill trek was on lower altitude and therefore much greener with a completely different landscape. It was interesting seeing also this area of Nepal. Due to the season and Covid this tour was also very quiet with only some Nepalese tourists.

Our only criticism is the porter’s shoes. We were surprised that he had only city sneakers although we also had to go longer distances through snow at altitudes above 4000 MASL.

We can clearly recommend Nepalorama as a trekking operator in Nepal! Although the difficult circumstances due to Covid restrictions everything was organized very well and we are happy that we took the opportunity to do this trek with Nepalorama!
