How did you become a professional trekking guide in Nepal?
“I didn’t know what I was going to do for my future. Then one day one of my brothers from my village who was a trekking guide asked me to join him on the Annapurna Circuit trek as a porter. I loved the experience of walking in the mountains and was interested in the different clients we trekked with and the places they came from. I continued to work as a porter for another four years during the trekking seasons. Then the Nepali Government wanted to train more trekking guides, as Nepal was becoming more popular. So, I participated in the official guide training and I’ve been working as a professional and reliable trekking guide in Nepal ever since.”
What do you like most about being a trekking guide?
“I just love being a trekking guide in Nepal! First of all, everyone knows that Nepal is one of the most beautiful countries in the world! It’s naturally very beautiful. There are a lot of mountains! There are so many different natural landscapes, cultures and lifestyles in Nepal – you can never get bored. So I feel really proud to be a trekking guide in my country.”
What’s your favourite trek in Nepal and why?
“I like all the trekking routes in Nepal and really enjoy trekking in each region. Every trekking area has a different natural beauty, different culture and a different way of living. Everest is one of the most popular trekking regions. But I really like the Annapurna Circuit trek because it covers all the geography of Nepal from hot, humid tropical and subtropical to high Himalaya cold weather with dry and barren desert like Mustang. I also love the majestic and panoramic Annapurna mountain family.”
If you could be a trekking guide anywhere else in the world, where would you guide and why?
“Of course I choose Nepal! I really like guiding clients to Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp. The Manaslu Circuit trek is also one of the most popular trekking routes. On those trails you can find good accommodation, food, and interesting culture including cultural dress.”
What advice would you give to clients preparing to trek in Nepal?
“I’m really happy to give advice to clients who are coming to trek in Nepal!
- Prepare mentally and physically for the trek.
- Have a good sleeping bag and don’t forget sunscreen, sun glasses, water bottle and water purification tablets.
- Choose the best equipment. Make sure your boots and socks are a good size. Pack good, light food to keep you going between teahouse stops.
- Don’t pack too much! Only bring the things you need. It will be easier for you and for your porters.”

How do you spend your time when it’s not trekking season? What do you do?
“When I’m not guiding treks, I have a home for orphaned kids in Kathmandu. In my home I have eight children, so I spend all my free time with my kids.”
