Let’s find out a little more about him in this Nepalorama Trekking Guide Interview

How did you become a professional trekking guide in Nepal?

“When I was young, I remember tourists used to walk through our village. I was always really interested and I wanted to talk with them and find out where they were from. My family has always been involved in tourism in Nepal. So, when I finished my studies, I immediately joined the industry and became a trekking guide.”

What do you like most about being a trekking guide?

“Nepal is one of the smallest landlocked countries in the world, and yet we have the highest mountain! We have so many different landscapes and so much beauty. I feel never ending peace and love when I’m in the mountains and I never get tired of seeing the views. Every time I guide a new group, I’m so happy to share Nepal with them, and also to learn new things about different countries – that’s what I enjoy most!”

What’s your favourite trek in Nepal and why?

“I grew up in a remote area of Nepal and I’ve always enjoyed exploring. I really like trekking anywhere and everywhere, but my favourite parts of Nepal are Upper Mustang, and Everest Base Camp, which most people know.”

If you could be a trekking guide anywhere else in the world, where would you guide and why?

“No contest. Definitely I choose my birthplace Nepal!”

What advice would you give to clients preparing to trek in Nepal?

“Before you come to Nepal, find out more about where you’re going, the region, the people, culture and dialogue, so that you can really make the most of your trip. Then research the trek you’re planning and do everything you can to prepare yourself. Trekking Nepal can be hard, but if you’re physically fit and mentally prepared, I believe you can do anything you want.”

How do you spend your time when it’s not trekking season? What do you do?

“Off season I work as a cook catering for events. I’ve also helped with cooking on camping treks. When I’m not trekking or cooking, I spend time with my family and also enjoy exploring new trails.”
